Arizona Republican Congressman Trent Franks recently questioned Obama’s Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Thomas Perez on his views on religious liberty and free speech.

Franks asked Perez if the Department of Justice “will never entertain or advance a proposal that criminalizes speech against any religion.”

Perez repeatedly refused to answer this simple question. Why did this encounter take place? It happened because Franks knows there are currently efforts underway by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to pass a U.N. “human rights” resolution that is designed to restrict the right of individuals to publicly criticize Islam.

Franks was also aware that Perez had attended a meeting of Islamists at a George Washington University conference in 2011. At this meeting, Perez heard Mohamed Magid, president of the Islamic Society of North America compare criticism of Islam to “religious bigotry and hate.” Another Islamist called for the DOJ to redefine religious free speech as illegal discrimination. Perez suggested to the Islamists that “we can learn much from each other.”

Thomas Perez, as you may recall, is the man responsible for dropping the voter intimidation case against the New Black Panther Party.

Perez has a long record of pushing for policies that cripple the right of states to have honest voting systems and once served as a board member for Casa de Maryland, a George Soros-funded advocacy group for illegal aliens.

Perez can be expected to side with Islamists against the First Amendment, should he have the opportunity to do so in the future if Obama is re-elected.
